Before and After: The Drought from Above
O.C. Fisher Reservoir, West TX
O.C. Fisher Reservoir, a shallow 5,440-acre lake, served as a drinking water reservoir in San Angelo in west Texas. It was also a popular fishing spot for the region, full of catfish, bass, and sunfish. The lake dried up in the summer of 2011, but before it did, it turned a blood-red color from the bacteria thriving in the oxygen-deprived stagnant water. In these satellite images, you can see the lake vanish.
