The average price for tart cherries in recent years has been about $0.23 per pound. This year they will go for over a dollar a pound. But many farmers say it doesn't make much of a difference what the price is when you don't have any to sell: Statewide more than 90 percent of the tart cherry crop was lost when freezing weather followed an unusually warm spring.
