Politico: Republicans Roll Out Interactive Party Platform

By: Hari Sreenivasan

Politico's Deputy Political Editor Alexander Burns stopped by The Rundown to talk about the Republican Party's new Web initiative, which is designed to allow anyone to submit ideas to their plan to take control of the House of Representatives this November.

The site, America Speaking Out, bills itself as an "opportunity to change the way Congress works by proposing ideas for a new policy agenda. Republicans have offered solutions, and we have our principles, but this is a new venue for us to listen to you."

Burns said that Republicans are trying to capitalize on political momentum with social media.

"This is absolutely inspired by this sense that Republicans really do have the wind at their back in this political cycle, but like in 1994 they do want some kind of organizing force, some kind of set of ideas to run on like the Contract with America 16 years ago," Burns said.

Recently, The NewsHour aired two reports on how both the Republican and Democratic parties are using online media for political communication and organization.
