Shields and Brooks on Afghan War, March Madness and Social Animals
Our serious business this week had our wonder twins (aka syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks) discussing a proposal from Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan.
For the first time, a public opinion poll shows that a majority of Americans support an immediate withdrawal of troops and another poll shows a majority saying that the war was not worth fighting. The vote in the House of Representatives split Democrats down the middle.
We also talked about their picks for who will win the NCAA college basketball tournament. Also, in the "not-so-shameless plug" department, we spoke briefly about David's new book, "The Social Animal." Jeffrey Brown had a chance to discuss the book at length with David for an interview we aired on March 8:
Several viewers wondered about some books behind Brooks during that interview, so we decided to ask him about it. I caught one of his book readings at the Aspen Institute this afternoon. Here is that leg of his six-week book tour.
As you may have noticed, we tried a different type of camera setup in this installment of The Doubleheader. It's an experiment to cut down on our editing and processing time and subsequently the time it takes to get the discussion out to you all. (Next time, we'll make sure to bring the extra light.) Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.
