The Doubleheader: Shields and Brooks on Money, Muslims and the NFL

By: Hari Sreenivasan

Those topics are not at all related, but they got our attention this week at The Doubleheader.

Syndicated columnist Mark Shields and New York Times columnist David Brooks spoke a bit about the billions being bandied about on Capitol Hill. Who is planning to save us how much you ask? The fellas help make sense of it. I'd also recommend checking out these pieces by reporter/producer Quinn Bowman. He's been up to his eyeballs in budget stories for our website and our Morning Line posts, which you can also receive in your inbox each weekday morning. Sign up on our politics page.

Shields and Brooks also spoke a bit about the House Committee on Homeland Security's upcoming hearings on "The Extent of Radicalization in the American Muslim Community and that Community's Response" plus the "I am Muslim, Too" rally planned for Sunday in Times Square and recent anti-Muslim protests.

Finally, we talk collective bargaining and the NFL. CNN had a decent primer on the topic in case you want to make sense of what the gentlemen are talking about.

Also, nearly 100 of you tuned in Friday afternoon as we tried something new, which was to livestream this week's Doubleheader taping on Ustream. Should we keep doing that? Let us know in the comments section. Have a great weekend.
