In Photos: 10 Events of the Afghan War
The U.S.-led war in Afghanistan began on Oct. 7, 2001. Soon after, the ruling Taliban regime fell, followed by the formation of a new government and Afghans holding their first parliamentary elections in more than 30 years. The war then intensified and retaliatory insurgent attacks increased on U.S. and allied forces. Earlier this year, al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was killed in neighboring Pakistan.
We illustrate some of the key developments in Afghanistan during the past 10 years.
