Newtown limits recreational shooting with new firearms ordinance
The Legislative Council of Newtown, Conn., unanimously approved a new firearms ordinance that sets limits on recreational shooting, nine months after the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The ordinance details that residents have four hours for shooting after notifying police and said shooting is limited to one person at a time. Target backstops will be required and must be 10 feet above the target, with set distances to neighboring properties. No shooting will be allowed within a half-mile of any school during a school day.
The new rules will not apply to hunting, law enforcement, or for special events.
