The exhibit includes a shirt worn by the Navy SEAL officer who reportedly captured bin Laden at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, in 2011. According to a 9/11 Memorial Museum press release, other items featured in the exhibit include a “challenge coin” donated by the C.I.A. officer who pursued bin Laden, along with a brick that was collected from the compound where bin Laden was captured. “These artifacts testify to the outcome of years of effort to locate Osama bin Laden,” said 9/11 Memorial Museum Director Alice Greenwald in the press release. The exhibit is meant to capture a moment in American history, and to pay tribute to the men and women who served in the armed forces during and after the 9/11 attacks. “This display … invites museum visitors to contemplate the extraordinary dedication of the U.S. military and intelligence communities in their search for justice in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks,” said Greenwald.
