The protesters, who had camped out in the city since Sept. 28, vowed to return. They have been demonstrating against the Chinese government’s decision to screen all candidates in Hong Kong’s elections in 2017. “The movement has been surreal,” said 27-year-old protester Javis Luk. “No-one knew it could last more than two months … in a place where time and money are most important.” Protest leaders said they would consider civil disobedience as other forms of getting their point across.
