Small Crash on Moon Could Have Big Scientific Impact October 9, 2009 Report NASA sent its Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, 5.6 million miles to the Cabeus crater on the moon, firing twin rockets to the surface to test the impact plumes for water ice.
