The battle over the next generation of high-definition DVDs ended Tuesday, when Toshiba announced that it would stop producing HD-DVDs, leaving the market to Sony's Blu-Ray. The Wall Street Journal's technology columnist explains the decision.

Pittsburgh Emerges as Robotics Center

The former steel town of Pittsburgh was recently dubbed "Roboburgh" in a Wall Street Journal article. The city is emerging as a national center for robotics research, as scientists at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh develop robots for a variety of uses, including military applications and helping the elderly with everyday tasks.
