Ancient Greece was the birthplace of democracy. Individuality and the concept of human rights--the basis of democratic societies today found their birthplace in the civilization of Ancient Greece. Aztec Civilization was based on a primitive monarchy. There was no system of writing. The capital city has been called the magnificent parasite" by scholars because it preyed on other Mesoamerican peoples for survival. Please read F. Kennedy's "The Aztecs" for a detailed decription of the brutal (to put it mildly) Aztecs.
