In 1536, as soon as Cabeza de Vaca arrived in the Spanish province of New Galicia in Mexico, the Spanish conquistadors became more and more excited about the possibility of finding the legendary Seven Cities of Cibola supposedly filled with silver, gold, and precious jewels.
