The Future of Payments
Paying for Internet Purchases – Ever since the beginnings of the World Wide Web, analysts have been predicting the explosion of Internet commerce. So far, e-commerce growth has been more steady expansion than explosion. One of the reasons that is often given for e-commerce's moderate take-off is the inconvenience of paying for items purchased over the Internet. Conventional payment media (cash, checks, and credit cards) were developed for over-the-counter purchases. Taking full advantage of the speed and universal reach of the Internet will require a new kind of payment medium that can transfer money instantly from anyone to anyone while maintaining an acceptable level of security.
