PapaLouis J. Papa, M.D.

Louis J. Papa M.D., FACP is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a primary care physician and partner at Olsan Medical Group.  He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Rochester, where he helps educate internal medicine residents on primary outpatient care.  He is also an attending physician at Strong Memorial Hospital. In 1989, Dr. Papa graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine and came to Rochester to complete his residency at Strong.  He is a member of the American College of Physicians.   Dr. Papa was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians at age 33, is a former Delegate for the Young Physicians Section representing New York State to the American Medical Association, and was named by his peers to "Best Doctors in America" in 2001.  He was selected by "Rochester Business Journal" as one of the "Forty under Forty" young community leaders in 2001 and was named as one of only 25 physicians under 40 years old nationally to receive the "Excellence in Medicine Award" from the American Medical Association Foundation for leadership in 2003. Dr. Papa is a member of numerous medical, civic and community committees and boards including volunteer work with the uninsured, and as Vice- President of the local medical society.

 

 

Scott MacRaeScott MacRae, M.D.  

Director of Refractive Services, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York

 

With the Center for Vision Science at the University of Rochester and Bausch & Lomb, Inc., Dr. MacRae promotes research and development of new refractive surgery techniques and technology. He has a special interest in laser ablation design and customized vision correction and in clinical trials, and has participated in and helped lead several FDA clinical trials in the United States.  Dr. MacRae has done more than 9,000 refractive surgery procedures and has trained over 300 clinicians around the world in the practice of refractive surgery.  His background as a corneal physiologist has allowed him to work extensively on the long term and public health effects of LASIK and refractive surgery.  Senior Associate Editor of The Journal of Refractive Surgery and author of over 80 published articles and book chapters, he has also written two best selling ophthalmic books on LASIK and refractive surgery: Customized Corneal Ablation: The Quest For Supervision and Wavefront Guided Vision Correction: The Quest for Supervision II.  In 1993 he was awarded the Lans Award, the second highest award in refractive surgery by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and The International Society of Refractive Surgeons. He has been voted by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors in America" for the past 13 years.  He was also named one of the 50 top world opinion leaders in a survey by Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today this year.   He was Chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Public Health Committee from 1991 to 1994 and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Research and Regulatory Committee from 1997 to 2000.

           

 

Michael DePaolisMichael DePaolis, OD, FAAO

Optometrist

Rochester, N.Y.

 

Dr. DePaolis received his undergraduate degree from St. John Fisher College and his doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.  He is in private group practice in Rochester, NY and serves as a Clinical Associate at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology.  Dr. DePaolis is chief optometric editor of Primary Care Optometry News and provides editorial review for the Journal of the American Optometric Association, Eye & Contact Lenses, and Contact Lens Spectrum.  A member of the Board of Directors of TLC Laser Vision Centers, he has served as a primary investigator in numerous FDA clinical trials and has authored over 100 papers, articles, and textbook chapters. 

 

 

Douglas D. KochDouglas D. Koch, M.D.

Professor of Ophthalmology and The Allen, Mosbacher and Law Chair of Ophthalmology, Baylor College of Medicine

 

Dr. Koch graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency training at Baylor College of Medicine and fellowship training in London, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Dr. Koch has been doing refractive surgery since 1982.  He became a member of the Baylor faculty that same year, and is now a professor of ophthalmology and holds the Allen, Mosbacher, and Law Chair in Ophthalmology. Author of more than 150 research articles and educational chapters, his current international and national positions include Editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Past President of the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club, Past President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and one of six charter members of the Executive Committee of the Refractive Surgery Interest Group of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Koch was named one of the "Best Doctors in America" in America's Top Doctors: The Nation's Leading Medical Specialists and, in a survey conducted by Ophthalmology Times, one of the top 10 refractive surgeons in the United States.

 

 

Dean KayDean "Dino" Kay

Radio Broadcaster and On-Air Personality

WCMF, Infinity Broadcasting, Rochester, NY.

 

Born in Canandaigua, NY, Dino is a radio veteran with 24 years experience on-air and in the office. Fifteen of those years have been behind the microphone at four different stations in Rochester, NY.  He has worked in the promotion and sales departments of AOR, Top 40 and Modern Rock formats, and has jocked Top-40, Classic Rock, Triple A and Modern Rock formats. Dino currently is on the air for the Classic Rock station, 96.5 WCMF in Rochester, NY.   He's a family man, married to his wife Tammy for 14 years with whom he shares two sons, Billy, 13 and Dean Jr., 11.  An avid golfer and skier who played high school football and lacrosse and college lacrosse at the State University of New York at Geneseo, he says, "My glasses used to get broken all the time!"  Needing to wear glasses since second grade, he jumped at the chance to have Lasik Surgery 6 years ago. His comment: "It's been a wonderful change in my daily life. I highly recommend it!"

 

 

Elissa OrlandoElissa Orlando

Civilian Guest

 

Elissa L. Orlando is a 20-year veteran of public affairs programming and multimedia storytelling. Orlando is director of national programming and special projects at WXXI Public Broadcasting. She was producer of the nationally televised Crucible of Freedom companion program to Ken Burns Not for Ourselves Alone.  Orlando has won several New York State broadcasting awards for television news reporting in Somalia Africa, Homestead Florida and other local and national venues.  She is a recipient of the Gracie award for television programming from American Women in Radio and Television, and she is the recipient of a Telly award for her production of the TV documentary Reclaiming the Crescent.  Orlando also received the Woman of the Distinction award from the Jefferson County Women's Conference in 1995. She was formerly TV news and public affairs director at WXXI, where she also served as executive producer, Website editor and news anchor of Need to Know, WXXI's Emmy Award-winning newsmagazine.
