Satie Airamé, PhD
Marine Ecologist

My primary responsibility is to share scientific information gathered for ocean policy, management and conservation. I track policy issues, with a focus on southern California and I work with scientists to provide relevant information to policy makers and managers. The primary avenues for sharing information are public meetings, workshops, booklets and brochures, popular articles, web-based resources and video.

Since 2002, I have worked with the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) at University of California, Santa Barbara, to share information about emerging issues related to coastal and ocean science and management. For the past five years, I worked with the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary to design, implement and monitor a network of marine protected areas around the northern Channel Islands. My role was to assemble and provide information to scientists, policy makers and managers. I also gathered scientific information to support the planning team for the Marine Life Protection Act (AB 993), an effort to improve the network of marine protected areas throughout the state of California. Recently, I have been working on the topic of resilience of ocean ecosystems and the effects of marine protected areas on ocean resilience.
