César Aponte

We asked each of our scientists to give us their thoughts on their professions and what they think the future holds for humanity.

What would you recommend for students wanting to pursue a similar career?
Find a job as a plumber instead. More seriously, [if you do want to pursue a career in ecology, it's important to] consider that future ecologists shouldn't keep [themselves] academically isolated from social sciences.

What do you like best about your profession?
The study of biology has been like an open window from which I [have] learned to appreciate the world from a different perspective. It is simply [a wonderful discipline if you are interested in discovering] the multiple ways in which that mysterious thing called life builds its road to perpetuity.

What makes you most fearful for the future?
Human selfishness and stupidity.

What makes you most hopeful for the future?
It looks like everyday there is more space for alternative visions about our role on the planet as ecological, ethical and social individuals.
