Lush:
You hit on two points that need to be addressed.
First, the minimum wage. Right now, a mother of two forced of welfare (thanks to the
right-wing welfare destruction program) has the oppotunity to get a minimum wage job
and live below the poverty level. What a deal! Not only that, but, because Clinton and
other conservatives killed AFDC, she gets to lose health benefits for her children shortly
thereafter.
Second, we are pretty much at full employment. In a system like the US has,
unemployment can't really go lower then about 4.5%.
Perhaps, instead of a minimum wage, we should institute a living wage, based on the
radical idea that a person who works full-time should be able to support herself.
Of course, this would mean abandoning capitalism, but, well, so what?
