This 90-minute documentary explores the response of the U.S. military in the war on terror by tracking fifteen months in the lives of citizen soldiers called to duty in Afghanistan.
The U. S. Army Reserves have sent 155,700 deployments to Afghanistan or Iraq, since September 11, 2001.
-CENTCOM: May, 2007
Follow the experiences and emotions of a Chinook helicopter unit from suburban Kansas City as they deploy first to Pakistan, where their relief efforts after the devastating October ’05 earthquake are enthusiastically welcomed by stranded villagers. Once in Afghanistan, the unit is thrown into the war against the Taliban, transporting troops and supplies into battle. The strain on the Chinook company begins to show as their tour of duty drags on and they battle fatigue, war weariness, and a longing for home.
The stress of an extended deployment is borne not only by the soldiers but also by their families. KANSAS TO KANDAHAR provides a glimpse into the sacrifices of those on the home front, as it also tracks the tensions and tribulations experienced by those left behind.
