Christopher Wood is a specialist in Victorian art and author of The Dictionary of Victorian Painters, a standard work of reference for the period. He joined Christie's in 1963, becoming director of 19th-century paintings in 1968. Since 1977 he has run his own gallery in London, specializing in Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian art, as well as Gothic furniture and the Arts and Crafts movement. He now works privately from an address in St James's, London, and has written many more books on his specialist subjects. He also presents a television series, Painters to the People, for Channel 4.
