Joyce's larger amount of free time allows her to more thoroughly study the lives of Victorian women. But the more she learns about the real women of 1900, the more uncomfortable she is with "watching someone else clean up my mess" -- and Elizabeth is given her walking papers. The family ventures out for their first night out on the town in months and attends a show at London's only remaining Victorian-style music hall. Joyce and Kathryn fight 1900 conventions by doing what few ladies of the day would do: audition a piece at the music hall. But their routine is deemed "too modern" for Victorian sensibilities. A farewell party at home for their Elliscombe Road neighbors leads to tearful good-byes before the family members change back into their modern clothes and pile into a mini-van for their trip back to the future.
