Bowlers were one of more than 400 families that applied to live
in the 1900 house. As a typical 20th-century family, they had to
come to terms with a life lacking the many luxuries we take for
granted in our modern lives. On the other hand, this family is unusual:
they have a genuine passion for history and they took full advantage
of the unique experience they were offered. They were uninhibited
in front of the cameras and able to express their views and emotions
clearly.
Constance Bowler, the oldest child in the family, did not live in
the 1900 house. She continued with her job and looked after the
modern home the family had left behind.
