Cowboy crooners such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers brought western
yodeling to the public's attention back in the 1930s and '40s, but Wylie
Gustafson is keeping yodeling alive for today's audiences. But don't
let his smooth-as-honey voice fool you. Gustafson is not only a
masterful yodeler, but also a bona fide cowboy who runs a working ranch
in the 12-person town of Dusty, Washington. But Wylie's not a lone
voice echoing solo on the prairie -- yodelers from all over the world
and of all ages convene every year at The National Old-Time Country
Festival in Avoca, Iowa, to compete as well as to swap yodeling songs
and stories.
