A student of botany and environmental science, Ned Kahn became enthralled by the patterns of water and wind at an early age. His obsession translates into monumental artworks, including a 40-foot tornado that whirls inside a building, "desert winds" that form ridges and dunes inside Plexiglas boxes, and sides of buildings that shimmer in the breeze.
