Roger Guenveur Smith's wrenching theatrical work is based on the complex life of Huey P. Newton, a seminal player in the struggle for civil rights. In between acting roles, including seven with director Spike Lee, Roger Guenveur Smith created this award-winning solo performance that embodies the soul of Huey Newton: his paranoid fantasies, charismatic wit, courage, and humanity. Through theatre, Roger Guenveur Smith confronts the multiple truths conjured by this man of many masks.
