In the early 1930's, Willie Eason, a parishioner from the House of God church in Philadelphia, became the first person to play gospel music on the Hawaiian steel guitar. Slowly, but surely, his innovation became the rock-solid foundation for all gospel music within the modern Pentecostal church.
