Bonsai is an ancient practice, over 2,000 years old, in which the beauty and grandeur of a tree are expressed in miniature form. Eighty-two year-old Harry Hirao takes his art form to unusual heights, regularly climbing into the high desert of California to find the perfect specimen. But getting his tiny prize back to civilization is just the beginning. By pruning the roots and shaping the branches with wires, Hirao slowly and carefully draws out the essence and character of the tree.
