When actor and clown Bill Irwin took on playwright and author Samuel Beckett's "Texts for Nothing," it was a unique opportunity to create a character. "Texts for Nothing," a series of plotless ruminations on existence, were not written to be performed. There are no stage directions; there are no clues as to how the character should dress, move, or speak. "Texts for Nothing" afforded Irwin nothing in terms of the character's who, what, where, how and why. An immense challenge, indeed. Irwin takes EGG inside his process as he creates a piece of theater that mystifies, moves and provokes.
