Simultaneously embracing and sending up the musical theater genre itself, "Urinetown" has audiences singing a decidedly different tune. But the real story is how "Urinetown" got to Broadway in the first place. Two years ago, after countless rejections from "legitimate" theaters and producers, creators Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann entered "Urinetown" in the New York International Fringe Festival. An audience favorite, "Urinetown" got a shot at off-off Broadway, then off Broadway, and then it hit the big-time! "Urinetown" has become Broadway's little engine that could, a critical and popular success that shows how a good idea can go a long way.
