Some of the Met's 500 or so galleries are contemplative in tone, inviting meditation and reflection. Bill T. Jones finds such solace in Isamu Noguchi's "Water Stone" (1986). From inside the large black stone, water invisibly flows out and over the surface, gently flows down the sides and dripping onto smaller stones below. The "Water Stone," Jones says, has an inviting presence. It doesn't just invite contemplation and quiet, it demands it.
