The exhibition "Extreme Beauty" features everything from metal corsets and plastic dresses, to codpieces and dresses with plunging necklines. These are just some examples of the lengths that designers -- and the people who wear their creations -- have gone for the sake of fashion. In another room, a portrait "Madame X" by John Singer Sargent shows what William Ivey Long believes any good dress should do: shock and inspire.
