Sam Moore's singing career began on a dare, when a friend challenged him to respond to a sign in the window of Miami's King of Hearts club looking for a comedian/singer/MC. "I went in, auditioned," Moore says, "and the first thing he said to me ... 'Tell a joke.' Well, I knew 'Knock-knock, who's there,' and then I tried to tell some joke; it just wasn't working. And then he said 'sing' and I sang. Then he said, 'Let me see you present like you're bringing somebody on. And I [said], 'Now, ladies and gentlemen ... so and so.' So he said, 'Good. I'll tell you what. Sing. Don't be funny, 'cause you're not funny.' "
