Abraham Migrates to Canaan

Abraham, the first of the Hebrew patriarchs, was born in a city called Ur. Because the Bible calls the city "Ur of the Chaldeans," the text is probably referring to the great city of Ur in southern Mesopotamia. Abraham's family moved to Haran, in northwestern Mesopotamia, and from there Abraham went to the land of Canaan. Although there is no evidence of Abraham's existence outside the Bible, the migration recorded in the Book of Genesis is consistent with the population movements that took place in the 2nd millennium BCE along established trade routes.

Terah took his sonAbram and his grandson Lot son of Haran,
and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram's wife, and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there.
Now YHWH said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you."
Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother's son Lot and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan.
