Very interesting information. I watched a jackal in the crater this January trying to grab part of a kill from a group of lionesses. He did have to give up in the end

Kevin,

There is a difference between biology and mythology. This bible quote is what is called a metaphor. "little jackals" are as much jackals as "the vine" is a vine. Do you feel the compulsion to research the plant Family Vitaceae as well, or maybe the meaning is more intuitive for you?

For jackals the Name of The Game is: Survival. You either kill to eat, or you scavenge (as most people do when they visit the meat section in a grocery store). Jackals don't have the luxury to lounge and ponder; they must seize opportunity with their teeth.

This is not destruction with no merit. This is nature, intricate and diverse. Take away one thread without understanding how it is woven together, and you risk unravelling entire patterns in the tapestry.
