I am 9, and my first pet was a lizard. He is a madagascar day gecko. i had him for four years, and he is alive and in good condition. Therefor, this proves you can be any age of 5 and up, and your lizard will live if you take care. When getting two lizards, try getting male and female. lizards of the same sex should never be put together. When buying your lizard, ask if it was caught or raised in captivity. A wild caught lizard is more likely to have a disease than a captive one.

Absolutely correct. Lizards are great pets but are very intensive in habituation. Another great lizard for a pet is the Savannah monitor (V. exanthematicus). They are generations into captive breeding resulting in a very docile and intelligent pet. Having knowledge beforehand can result in a very satisfying (but one-sided) love affair. Recommend Dr. Robert Sprackland's book on care of these marvelous animals.
