Wild Balkans
Photo Gallery: Rare Animals of the Balkans

While the Balkan Peninsula serves as a refuge for many creatures, many of them are listed by the IUCN as vulnerable or endangered.

Tonight on 1/31/10 a saw the last part of “The Wild Balkans”. It was about the European Minks and ended with a massive flock of starlings looking for a resting area. I would like to order a dvd of this if possible. I’ve searched your site but don’t find a listing. Will it be available in the future?

It does a body and soul good, to know that something so natural and so untouched by the destruction of human influence, can still exist on today’s earth. This show was brilliantly done – from the excellent narration, to the raw and rugged beauty, to those amazing and colorful skies. That closing scene, of the starlings in twilight flight, is something that everyone here sharing this earth should witness. For all of our wasteful wants and needs and for all of our indifferences – the Balkan peninsula, is one of natures last remaing reminders to us, that we can still get it right – we still have hope.

The entire show was amazing, but those flocks of starlings at the end were something else. So glad we have these shows to see the beauty of this Earth. Can’t wait until next week’s episode!

this episode was mosty filmed in south of Balkan in Macedonia and part of Albania, but you should come to Serbia to see. Here we have wild horses in mountain of Maljen, at lake Uvatz and at area of Valjevo there are whiteheded vultures, in Zasavitza national park there are beavers and otters, and not to mention a huge variety of birds. In small swampy island near center of Belgrade there is a winter habitat for the rearest birds in Europe, and forests are full of wild cats, wolfs, lynxs, bears… I live in the wider area of Belgrade center and under my widow is nightingale’s nest, our neighborhood is home for parrot who escape from the cage six years ago…. I can go like this for days, somebody should come here and film this amazing beauty.

Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they plainly don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

This was a beautiful video. I agree with Miranja. I happily lived in the Beograd region of Serbija for several years. It is a shame that the video did not include the long diverse list of wildlife and wilderness throughout Serbija. I was waiting for it throughout the duration of the dvd. Perhaps someone will be motivated to include this region in the next dvd of the Wild Balkans. Shelley
