The Women : Premiere Tuesday, June 18 at 9:00 pm (check listings)

Preview video Gold-diggers, schemers, gossips, and social climbers -- these are the women who populate "The Women," the 1936 comedy by Clare Boothe Luce. George Cukor's 1939 film version of the play featured Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell in a hilarious catfight that made "jungle red" nail polish synonymous with sharp-clawed back stabbing.

Now, Thirteen/WNET New York's STAGE ON SCREEN series brings Roundabout Theatre Company's hit revival of "The Women" to the small screen, straight from its sold-out run on Broadway.

STAGE ON SCREEN: THE WOMEN stars Kristen Johnston (THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN) as Sylvia, Rue McClanahan (THE GOLDEN GIRLS) as Countess De Lage, and Cynthia Nixon (SEX AND THE CITY) as Mary -- socialites competing in a no-holds barred survival of the fittest. The all-female cast also features Jennifer Tilly (BULLETS OVER BROADWAY) as Crystal, Mary Louise Wilson ("Cabaret") as Mrs. Morehead and Jennifer Coolidge (BEST IN SHOW, AMERICAN PIE) as Edith. Glamorous costumes by designer Isaac Mizrahi give the lavish stage production, directed by Scott Elliott, the look of a high-style fashion show. Jason Alexander (SEINFELD), the evening's host, conducted a backstage interview with the leading ladies for a special intermission feature.

STAGE ON SCREEN: THE WOMEN is made possible by funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Dorothy and Lewis Cullman, the LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust, the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust, the Cornelius V. Starr Fund for Arts Programming at Thirteen/WNET New York, and PBS.
