World Links: Protester Shot and Killed in Iran, Nine Hostages Killed in Yemen

One protester is killed and several critically wounded at a massive rally held in Tehran to protest the results of Friday’s Iranian presidential election.

Conflicting reports indicate that at least 3 and as many as all 9 hostages captured recently in Yemen have been killed. The group consisted of 7 Germans, two of them children, a Briton and a South Korean.

Fourteen Indian sailors set adrift by Somali pirates are rescued by a NATO warship.

The Palestinian’s senior negotiator Saeb Erekat rejects outright the terms Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attached to Israel allowing the creation of a Palestinian state.

U.S. General McChrystal takes command of nearly 90,000 U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.

The H1N1 virus claims its first European victim, a 38-year old mother from Glasgow who had just given premature birth to a baby.
