The show erroneously states that Japan surrendered unconditionally in 1945. Hirohito was allowed to remain emperor and not tried for his war crimes.
Actually, Japan did surrender unconditionally. Hirohito’s continued reign was not predetermined, and in the early months of the occupation there was much anxiety on the Japanese side about the future status of the Showa monarch.
