GREEN WITH ENVY?
THE WOODWRIGHT’S SHOP WITH ROY UNDERHILL IS 29...& HOLDING!
How-to Hero Celebrates 29 Years on PBS!
As The Woodwright’s Shop embarks on its 29th new season on PBS, premiering Saturday, October 10, at 4 PM, on UNC-TV, Roy Underhill still holds tight to the past. After nearly three decades, one would expect nothing less from the show’s creator and uninterrupted host/co-producer.
Despite the lavish lifestyles and accolades usually associated with entertainment icons, somehow Roy remains unchanged (aside from a few scars sustained in the name of good television).
As far as we know, Roy didn’t stumble upon Ponce de Leon’s elusive Fountain of Youth, doesn’t share genetics with Peter Pan and hasn’t made any deals akin to that in The Picture of Dorian Gray, In fact, according to Roy, his secret for staying steady and true amounts to good, clean, natural woodworking.
Rejoice with Roy in the ways of yesterday, when power tools were tools under human power fueled by sweat and strength.
This season, Roy takes traditional woodworking to exciting, old levels as he explores and celebrates one of the hottest green trends today—sustainable energy. Along the way, Roy discovers that, once again, the Shakers were right. Under their own power, they made enduring treasures of American furniture. Join Roy and his colorful guests this season as they follow the Shakers well-worn path, making chairs and tables and other heirloom-worthy pieces using classic hand tools and found wood. It’s more muscle-powered magic from The Woodwright’s Shop with Roy Underhill—green before green was cool!
