A) Many pumps used in municipal water pipes may change polarity when their microchips come across the year "00." They'll start pumping backwards, sucking the water from your pipes or causing your toilets to explode when flushed.

*B) Computer programmers will head for the hills, hiding in cabins until the Y2K problem finishes crashing the stock markets and international economies.

Answer B is a very popular prediction by many of the doomsday experts. Just like rats jumping a sinking ship, they're expecting the rascals responsible for all these problems to hightail it out of town. However, quite the opposite may be closer to reality. The Y2K problem has become a multi-million dollar industry here in the U.S., and may extend into the billions around the world. That's a lot of work for programmers. Maybe they'll be heading for those cabins afterwards to take a long vacation with the money they make.

Answer A is a prankster's dream, but it's not true.
