A) The Y2K bug has already hit the 2000 Olympic Games hosted by Sydney, Australia. Many of the medals to be presented were engraved by computer operated robots and mistakenly dated "1900" instead of "2000."

*B) Heart patients with pacemakers should be worried, because their pacemakers use microchips that keep track of the year.

Answer B is another favorite of the alarmists. Pacemakers are never fun, but they won't fail when the year flips to 2000 either. None of the chips used in pacemakers keep track of the year. They just keep on ticking.

Answer A is funny enough to sound true, but it's not. Just like coins, all the medals are minted from hand-designed presses. While our world is becoming more computerized, some things are still done by hand.
