Roberta Horton refers to her "life list," taking the phrase from birdwatchers in their quest to experience as much as possible of the world with which they are fascinated. We quilters have such secret plans tucked away in our imaginations, and, when one project is completed, we sort out those that are left, pick the next most urgent image, and begin again. My life list, usually, consists of some new variation on Bargello and one other thing. For awhile, that other thing was a Double Irish Chain. Then it was Hawaiian, but with multiple, overlaid, and intertwining motifs.

So now I am hooked on that rather Arabesque design concept, and realizing all of its possibilities is my new life list. I made "Crimson Tango" for the special exhibit this April, organized by Diana Leone of California, in the castle on the Flower Island of Mainau on Lake Bodensee in Germany. It was a thrill to be included in the talented group of fabric artists in the Island's first quilt show. Making this quilt gave me incredible pleasure, and I'm not sure I can ever create another piece of art that will be as beautiful to me.
