Rep. Pat Ryan, D-N.Y., says Democrats are "on the offensive now" after President Joe Biden passed the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris in the race for the White House.

In an interview with PBS News on Night 1 of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Ryan said the Harris campaign's focus on protecting and expanding American freedoms has been "right on the message" for the country and competitive districts like his, New York's 18th Congressional District north of New York City.
Ryan won his seat in 2022 by campaigning aggressively on the issue of reproductive rights after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. He also noted that his state's Democratic Party has been harnessing the surge in volunteer energy to try to flip several New York seats in the House from red to blue.
"We've got to earn it," he said. "We should not get ahead of ourselves, but the momentum and trajectory is just growing and building."
