Mikie Sherrill, the first Democratic woman to win a New Jersey governor's race, was sworn in Tuesday as the state's 57th chief executive.

Sherrill, a former federal prosecutor and Navy helicopter pilot, previously represented New Jersey's 11th Congressional District in the U.S. House.
Dale Caldwell was sworn in as the state's lieutenant governor. Caldwell, a pastor at Covenant United Methodist Church in Plainfield, has been president of Centenary University since 2023.
Sherrill beat Republican challenger, former state Rep. Jack Ciattarelli, in the November gubernatorial election by about 14 percentage points.
Sherrill succeeds Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy and will serve a four-year term.
