Fitzgerald said approximately 35,000 ballots will be looked at, with 29,000 ordered by federal court to "not be handled or processed until five o'clock on Friday."

He said another 6,800 ballots that have been damaged will be counted early on Frday.

The state still had hundreds of thousands of ballots left to count as Democrat Joe Biden and President Donald Trump fought to the end for the White House.

Trump's campaign said it was moving to intervene in existing Supreme Court litigation over counting mail-in ballots there.
