Justice Alito orders county elections officials to separate Pennsylvania mail-in ballots that arrived after Election Day

From the AP: The order came in response to a plea from the state Republican Party as Democrat Joe Biden inched ahead of President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania in the presidential race. The state’s top elections official already had ordered those ballots be kept apart.
Alito, acting on his own, ordered a response from the state by Saturday afternoon and said he has referred the matter to the full court for further action. He said he was motivated in part by the Republicans’ assertion that they can’t be sure elections officials are complying with guidance issued by Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat. The justice handles emergency appeals from Pennsylvania.

Georgia secretary of state says race too close to call, merits recount

Out of 5 million votes cast in Georgia going into the 2020 presidential election, 4,169 votes from four counties are outstanding, along with nearly 9,000 military provisional ballots, the state’s voting system implementation manager, Gabriel Sterling, said during a briefing Friday morning.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the race was too close to call, and merited a recount. “When you have a narrow margin, little, small things can make a difference,” he said.

Sterling also said that Georgia typically has about 5 percent of the total vote from absentee ballots, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, close to a third of all votes were absentee.
