WATCH: Senators sworn in as new Congress begins

The U.S. Senate gavels into session today for the beginning of the 116th Congress.

The Senate convened today. Watch senators being sworn in in the player above.

Following a preliminary prayer and pledge, senators will be sworn in by groups of four. Following that, there will be some housekeeping items before Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., deliver their prepared remarks.
