Machado gave her prize to President Donald Trump in January "as a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom."

Trump had openly lobbied for the peace prize, claiming he had ended multiple wars. The Nobel Committee's policy states that a prize "cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others."

Trump weighed in this week about whether he would receive this year's award. In the Oval Office Wednesday, Trump told reporters it would be a "great discredit" if he doesn't win.
