Psy’s horse-galloping music video threatened to exceed YouTube’s original view limit, a potential problem Google, which owns the video service, said it anticipated months ago. YouTube said the South Korean singer’s 2012 video has been viewed more than 2,147,483,647 times, the maximum possible views YouTube’s previous counter allowed. “We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer,” YouTube said in a Google Plus post Monday, “but that was before we met PSY.” YouTube said it upgraded its video counter to a 64-bit integer, which now allows up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 — more than nine quintillion — views for a single video. Google told the Verge that “[w]e saw this coming a couple months ago and updated our systems to prepare for it.” Two years ago, “Gangnam Style” overthrew Justin Bieber’s “Baby” as the most watched YouTube video of all time.
